August 8, 2002 - Northeast League (NEL)
Adirondack Lumberjacks News Release

Glens Falls, NY- The Adirondack Lumberjacks announced today the signing of INF Robert "Jude" Voltz to a Northern League contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Voltz, a 6-6, 215 pound power hitter, was originally selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 24th round of the 2000 draft. The Metairie, LA native hit .236 with 18 home runs and 69 RBI's as a member of the Beloit (WI) Snappers of the Midwest League, the Brewers Single-A affiliate, last season.

As a rookie in 2000, Voltz hit .285 with 12 homers and 53 RBI's in 62 games while playing for the Helena (MT) Brewers. He was among the league's top five for home runs and extra-base hits that season.

"Signing Jude fills a big hole left in our lineup when we sold Juan LeBron to the Cardinals," stated Jacks General Manager Curt Jacey. "We expect Jude to play first base, which will allow us to move Steve King to the outfield."

The 23 year-old attended Mississippi State, and has joined the Lumberjacks in Quebec for the team's four game series against les Capitales.

Angio Dynamics and Glens Falls Hospital will be presenting fireworks on Friday, August 16 following the Jacks game against the Elmira Pioneers. Game time is 6 PM, with gates opening at 5 PM. For tickets or information, call the Lumberjacks Ticket Office at (518) 743-9618.
