Dubuque Drops Road Contest to Des Moines
A shorthanded Dubuque Fighting Saints couldn't muster enough offense to keep up with the Des Moines Buccaneers, as they dropped their third game of the season 9-3 on Monday night. Tanner Latsch recorded a hat trick for the Bucs in their second win of the season.
-Dubuque wasted no time getting the scoring started as Daniyal Dzahaniyev recorded his second of the year less than two minutes into the first period. The Saints doubled their lead shortly after as Max Montes notched his first USHL goal.
-Montes became the second Saint in as many game weekends to record his first USHL goal. He joins Connor Kurth as the two players to get their firsts during the 2020-21 season.
-Dzhaniyev scored again for Dubuque at almost exactly the halfway mark of the first period to give Dubuque what seemed to be a commanding lead. The goal was his third of the year and his second five on five goal of the season.
-Des Moines roared back to score the final three goals of the period. The Bucs scored twice in 10 seconds to pull close to the Fighting Saints and then grabbed a late goal from Scout Truman to tie things up. The two goals in 10 seconds were the quickest the Fighting Saints have given up in the last two seasons.
-Des Moines continued their strong play in period two as they outshot the Saints 14-3 en route to two more goals. Matt Choupani scored the go-ahead goal for his third of the season and Tanner Latsch notched his second of the game to extend the lead.
-Des Moines chased Aidan McCarthy from the net after the fourth goal of the game as the Saints defense struggled to help out their second year netminder.
-Des Moines kept rolling into the third period as they secured four more goals. Scout Truman finished the game with two for the Buccaneers and Tanner Latsch finished off the hat trick in the late stages of the third period.
-The nine goals for Des Moines were the second most scored by a team in the USHL this season.
-Remington Koepple was solid in his relief appearance, not allowing a goal in his 50 minutes of play.
-Dubuque faces off at home against Team USA's NTDP on Saturday November 28th for their next game. The puck will drop at 7:05 pm
