Greenville, SC - A gem of an outing from Enmanuel De Jesus and a clutch home run by Zach Sterry powered the Greenville Drive to a 4-2 victory over the Greensboro Grasshoppers in front of 5,332 fans on Thursday at Fluor Field.
With the win, the Drive (30-23, 55-67) move back into a tie for first place in the Southern Division.
De Jesus (7-4) fired seven strong innings for the Drive and matched his career high with 10 strikeouts, which was previously set on May 18th. The southpaw allowed just two runs on five hits and two walks.
With the score tied at two in the bottom of the sixth, Sterry put the Drive ahead for good by smacking a two-run homer 402 feet to right-center off Ethan Clark (0-1).
The Drive plated their first two runs of the night in the bottom of the first. Following singles by Ryan Fitzgerald and Marino Campana, Pedro Castellanos lined an RBI single to right field to plate Fitzgerald, and Campana came in to score when the throw home from right field bounced into the Greensboro (21-28, 55-63) dugout.
The Grasshoppers got those two runs back in the third after a sacrifice fly by Connor Scott and an RBI single by Thomas Jones, a native of Laurens.
Castellanos went 2-4 with an RBI for the Drive, and he is now hitting .439 in August with 25 hits in 57 at-bats.
The Drive will go for a sweep of the three-game series on Friday night at Fluor Field at 7:05. Left-hander Jhonathan Diaz (8-8, 3.60) takes the ball for Greenville, and Greensboro will send right-hander Taylor Braley (5-6, 4.41).
