Drive Rally to Beat Iowa, Win Third Game in a Row

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., November 29, 2014 - Adonis Thomas drained two free-throws with 18 seconds left in the game to help the Grand Rapids Drive rally to beat the Iowa Energy.

The Drive (3-3), who trailed by as many as 12 points, beat Iowa 102-97 on Saturday evening for their third win in a row and second at home in front of 2,600 fans.

"It 's great to get this win at home in front of these fans, " Drive coach Otis Smith said. "It 's good that they get the opportunity to see this quality of basketball on a regular basis. "

Lorenzo Brown scored 22 points to lead five Drive players with double figures in scoring. Adonis Thomas had 20 points, followed by Kelsey Barlow (14), Brandon Fields (14), and Willie Reed had 10 points and 14 rebounds.

Diante Garrett led the Energy (3-1) with 18 points and former Michigan State guard Kalin Lucas had 17 points.

Barlow, a guard out of Illinois-Chicago, made the most of his minutes. He drained three

3-pointers in the first period to give the Drive a 22-19 lead. But the Energy rallied back, scoring 15 in a row and eventually led 53-48 at halftime.

It was a big third quarter for Grand Rapids as it out-scored Iowa 25-16. A Lorenzo Brown layup with 7 minutes left in the third gave the Drive a 59-58 lead, its first lead since early in the first quarter. And a 18-5 run helped Grand Rapids lead 75-72 at the end of the third.

Fields hit back-to-back 3-pointers late in the fourth quarter to give the Drive a 10-point lead with 5:34 to go, but the Energy got to within one point - 98-97.

The next game for the Drive, the affiliate of the Detroit Pistons, is at home on Friday, Dec. 5 against the Westchester Knicks. Iowa 's next game is Tuesday, Dec. 2 at Fort Wayne.
