Drillers, Skycats split weekend double-header

Drillers post first victory

Mahwah- December 18: The New Jersey Skycats couldn't claw all the way back on Saturday night as they fell to Calgary 91-85. The loss marked the first loss for the ‘cats at the Bill Bradley Center.

The Skycats entered the fourth quarter down 72-56 when the team rallied with a 16-6 run capped off with a Tennyson Whitted three to only trail 84-83. The rally fell short as Damian Owens hit a layup with .25 seconds left put the Drillers up for good and gave the Drillers their first win. With the loss the Skycats fall to 3-5.

The Skycats were led by Edmund Sanders with 17 points and Marcus Tony-El with 14 points. The Drillers were led by Nate Driggers with 17 points.

Skycats claw past Drillers to split series

Mahwah-December 19: The Skycats bounced back from a tough defeat the night before and pulled a game closer to .500 as they beat the Calgary Drillers 87-79 at the Bill Bradley Center.

The Drillers didn't just lay down for the ‘Cats, as the game featured four lead changes, and six ties, as the Drillers held the Skycats to a season low nine second quarter points. New Jersey was able to crash the boards and out rebound Calgary 58-47 and out score the Drillers 30-12 on second chance opportunities.

Kenya Carruthers scored 11 of his team high 18 points in the first quarter. Carruthers also grabbed 11 rebounds, Edmund Sanders contributed with 17 points, and Nick Boyd chipped in with 10 points and 19 rebounds to help lead the Cats to victory.

The Drillers fall to 1-3, as the Skycats improve 4-5 and prepare for the holidays. The Skycats announced that the Next home game will be against Harlem on January 2nd 2005. The Skycats won their last meeting at the Bill Bradley center 79-75
