Drillers Lose Second Straight To Nats

July 23, 2008 - After a ninety minute rain delay Wednesday night, the NorthWest Arkansas Naturals defeated the Tulsa Drillers 4-3 at Arvest Ballpark in Springdale.

The win was their second in as many games. The Nats jumped on the board first in the first inning. Marc Maddox doubled to left field and two batters later was plated by Kila Kaaihue's twenty fifth home run giving the home team a 2-0 advantage.

NorthWest Arkansas added to their lead in the third inning. Ovandy Suero was singled in by Maddox, who was then plated by a Kaaihue sac fly and reading 4-0 on the scoreboard.

Tulsa cracked into the scoring column in the fifth inning. Cory Wimberly singled and stole his Texas League leading forty seventh base on the season. Eric Young Jr. walked and stole second himself. Dexter Fowler then walked loading the bases. Matt Miller doubled to left and cleared the bases with the speedy Drillers cutting the lead to 4-3.

That would be the only scoring on the night.

Drillers starter Alan Johnson went six innings, giving up three earned runs and striking out three in the losing effort.

Naturals starter Daniel Cortes picked up his fifth win going five innings, giving up three runs and striking out three. Gilbert De la Vara picked up his first save on the season.

The win for the Naturals pushed their lead in the North division to one and a half games on second place Springfield and three on the Drillers.

The series finale is scheduled for 7:05 Thursday evening in Springdale. Tulsa will send Brandon Hynick (6-6, 4.76 ERA) to the mound and the Naturals will counter with Blake Wood (3-4, 5.55 ERA).
