Frisco RoughRiders News Release

The Tulsa Drillers defeated the RoughRiders Wednesday night in a see saw battle at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The Drillers broke a scoreless tie in the top of the eighth before the 'Riders regained the lead in the bottom of the frame. Tulsa took the lead for good with two runs in the top of the ninth.

Taylor Teagarden put the 'Riders ahead early with a two run home run over the berm in left centerfield. The home run was Teagarden's first as a 'Rider.

The Drillers began to chip away at the RoughRiders' lead with a run in the third inning. Aaron Rifkin singled home Jonathan Herrera to cut the deficit in half at 2-1. Tulsa tied the game just one inning later when Duke Sardinha hit a two out double and scored on a Rick Guarno single.

The game remained tied as each starter held the opposing offense in check. Frisco starter Doug Mathis worked six innings and allowed one earned run on six hits while striking out three and walking three. Tulsa starter Ryan Mattheus was equally impressive allowing two runs in his seven innings of work.

Tulsa took a lead in the top of the eighth as Guarno hit a RBI single just beyond the reach of center fielder Brandon Boggs to give Tulsa a 3-2 lead. Frisco quickly responded with a run in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at three. John Mayberry hit an RBI single to score Steve Murphy.

The Drillers reclaimed the lead in the ninth with a pair of runs to take a 5-3 lead. Rifkin drove in Chris Frey with a single and Matt Macri delivered another RBI single in the inning.

Juan Morillo (5-4) earned the victory after he recorded the final two outs of the eighth inning. Kea Kometani (2-4) took the loss for Frisco as he surrendered two runs in 2/3 innings. Steve Register recorded his 33rd save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

Offensively, Teagarden was the only 'Rider with multiple hits as he went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Emerson Frostad reached base three times going 1-for-2 with a pair of walks. Rifkin led the Drillers with three hits and two RBI.

The 'Riders and Drillers will continue their three game set Thursday night at 7 p.m.
