Hartford Yard Goats News Release

Hartford, CT - Drew Romo connected for three hits, including his fourth home run of the season, in front of 7,254 fans, the 10th consecutive sellout at Dunkin' Park, but the Yard Goats fell to the Somerset Patriots 10-2 on Sunday afternoon in downtown Hartford. Braxton Fulford also reached base three times, smacking two singles and getting hit by a pitch in three at-bats, and Dugan Darnell perplexed Somerset out of the bullpen, throwing one inning and striking out two batters without allowing a baserunner. Yard Goats batters were hit six times today which is a new franchise record.

The ballgame was scoreless through two innings, but Somerset would break the tie in the top of the third inning. Jeisson Rosario hit a high flyball over the wall in left field to lead off the inning, giving Somerset a 1-0 lead after three frames.

Somerset displayed their power once again in the top of the fifth inning, beginning with a lead off solo home run by Aaron Palensky. After Yard Goats starter Nick Garcia got Trey Sweeney to fly out to left field, Jasson Dominguez lined a single up the middle, and two batters later, T.J. Rumfield connected on a two-run home run to right field. The next batter, Tyler Hardman, singled to left field, and after advancing to second on an error, Hardman scored on a ground ball single through the left side to put the Patriots up 5-0 after five innings.

In the top of the sixth inning, Somerset would extend their lead. Max Burt worked a leadoff walk and was immediately rewarded, as Palensky drove him home with an RBI-double to the left field corner. Sweeney moved Palensky over to third on a ground out to shortstop, and Dominguez hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Palensky and put Somerset up 7-0 after six frames.

The Patriots continued to showcase their power in the top of the seventh inning. A leadoff walk worked by Rumfield led to a two-run home run two batters later, as Caleb Durbin hit a ball over the left field wall to give Somerset a 9-0 advantage.

Hartford responded in the bottom of the seventh frame, as the first batter of the inning, Braxton Fulford, was drilled by a pitch. Drew Romo would then step up to the plate and rope a 1-1 slider over the tall wall in right field to put the Yard Goats on the board and cut Somerset's lead to 9-2 after seven innings.

Somerset lengthened their lead in the top of the eighth inning thanks to Dominguez's second RBI of the game. Sweeney doubled down the left field line to put himself in scoring position with one-out, and on the very next pitch, Dominguez pulled a single into right field to score Sweeney to give Somerset a 10-2 advantage, which would eventually become the final score.

The Yard Goats hit the road next week for a six-game set against the Reading Fightin Phils, beginning on Tuesday night (7:00 PM) at FirstEnergy Stadium. Gabriel Hughes toes the rubber for the Yard Goats to begin the series after throwing five innings and earning a no decision in his last start against the Somerset Patriots. Tuesday's game will be broadcast on AM 1410, FM 100.9 and on the iheart radio app. The Yard Goats return to Dunkin' Park on Tuesday, June 20th to host the Erie SeaWolves.
