Atlanta Dream News Release

Atlanta, April 28, 2009- The Atlanta Dream announced today that the team has waived guard Ashley Shields. Shields, a 5-10 guard, was acquired by the Dream earlier this month in a draft day deal which sent Atlanta's 18th overall pick to the Detroit Shock.

The Southwest Tennessee Community College product made a splash in the 2007 draft, when she was drafted eighth overall by the Houston Comets, becoming the first WNBA draftee from a junior college. Shields signed with the Detroit Shock last season as a free agent after being waived by the Comets. In seven games with the Shock, Shields averaged 3.1 points, 0.4 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game.

The Dream will tip off its second season on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 7 p.m. against the Indiana Fever. For more information and to purchase season tickets, fans can call 404.604.2626 or visit www.AtlantaDream.net. Single game tickets will go on sale April 9 and can be purchased by calling 1-877-WNBA-TIX, at AtlantaDream.net, at the Philips Arena box office and at all Ticketmaster outlets.
