Atlanta Dream News Release
ATLANTA (August 24, 2015) - The Atlanta Dream will take on the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday, August 25 at Philips Arena in the first annual "Dream S.T.E.A.M" game presented by Georgia Power and Speedpro. Tip time is slated for 11:30 a.m.
The Dream has partnered with Dekalb County Schools for this season's Dream S.T.E.A.M game, with over 2,500 students from the Dekalb County School District (Region V) expected to be in attendance for Tuesday's clash with the Sun. Subway restaurant, an official sponsor, will be providing lunches for Dekalb County Schools.
Other area school districts that will attend include Atlanta Public Schools and Houston County School District among numerous others.
Dream S.T.E.A.M. capitalizes on the growing interest in the science of sports. The goal of the program is to engage Atlanta area students in the practical applications of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.
A number of events will be centered on the effort to encourage and expose students to careers in those fields, including a pregame science fair and sports combine, presented by Sports Training Academy beginning at 10 a.m.
Other activities include a robotics display on the Philips Arena concourse, hosted by Fun Weird Science and sponsored by OMG Booth. 100 Black Men of America, Inc., will have a 100 Robotics Team on display.
The first 2,000 students in attendance will receive a free Dream S.T.E.A.M. Workbook, courtesy of Georgia Power.
The Dream and Sun will be squaring off for the fifth and final time this regular season when they meet on Tuesday afternoon - and with both battling for playoff position in the Eastern Conference.
Atlanta eclipsed the WNBA record for highest three-point percentage (10-of-12/.833) and tied the league record for most points in a quarter (40/2nd) in a 102-92 victory at Connecticut on Sunday.
