Dayton Dragons News Release

DAYTON, OHIO-Dayton Dragons games on Friday, June 22 and Saturday, June 23 will be televised from Fifth Third Field. Games will be seen on WHIO Digital Channel 7.2 (Time Warner Basic Cable Channel 23 and Digital Channel 372) at 7:00 p.m. as the Dragons host the Bowling Green Hot Rods.

Sponsors of the telecast include Texas Roadhouse, Friendship Village, John Morrell Food Group, Drake Heating and Air, Bathroom Alternatives, Greater Ohio Virtual School, Dave & Busters, DP&L, IUE-CWA, and Smoothie King.

Former Reds infielder Chris Sexton will serve as the commentator on the Friday telecast. Former Reds first baseman and Dragons manager Todd Benzinger will handle commentator duties on Saturday. Dragons Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations Tom Nichols handles the play-by-play on all telecasts, which are produced by the Dragons' in-house production crew. The Dragons will televise 25 games from Fifth Third Field this season.

Sexton starred at St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati before going on to Miami University in Oxford, where is one of only two players in school history to have earned the Mid American Conference Player of the Year award (former Red Sox infielder Tim Naehring is the other). Sexton still holds the Miami record for both single season batting average (.429 in 1993) and career batting average (.382). He played for the Rockies in 1999 and the Reds in 2000. He also spent 10 years in the Minor Leagues, batting a combined .290. He hit over .300 at the Triple-A level in three different seasons.

Benzinger was the Dragons manager for the 2009 and 2010 seasons and a key member of the Cincinnati Reds 1990 World Series champions. He recorded the final out of the '90 World Series when he caught a foul pop off the bat of Oakland's Carney Lansford in the ninth inning of game four. He spent nine years as a player in the major leagues with the Reds, Red Sox, Royals, Dodgers, and Giants, playing in 924 major league games.

In 1990, he appeared in nine of the Reds' 10 post-season games including all four World Series games after playing in 118 regular season games for Cincinnati and batting .253. He concluded his major league playing career in 1995. Benzinger is a Cincinnati-area native. He was an All-American at New Richmond (Ohio) High School and now resides in West Chester. Following his playing days, Benzinger enjoyed a highly-successful career coaching girls' high school basketball in the Cincinnati area from 1999-2009.
