(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Charlotte RHP Kyle Drabek, who compiled a 2-0 record with a 0.75 ERA in two starts last week, was named as the International League's Pitcher of the Week for the period of July 6-12, as announced by the International League of Professional Baseball Clubs, Inc. this morning. Drabek is the third Knights player to be honored with a weekly award this season joining infielder Carlos Sanchez (April 13-19 & April 27-May 3) and RHP Erik Johnson (June 15-21). Sanchez has earned IL Batter of the Week honors twice this year.

Drabek, 27, began the week by tossing six solid innings in a 2-1 win over the Gwinnett Braves on Monday, July 6. The Victoria, TX native allowed just one run (unearned) on six hits en-route to his fourth victory of the season. Five days later, he allowed two runs (one earned) over six frames in a 10-2 win over the Norfolk Tides on Saturday, July 11. Overall for the week, Drabek went 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA (12 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 9 SO).

For the season, Drabek is 5-5 with a 2.56 ERA in 15 starts with the Knights (84.1 IP). His 2.56 ERA currently ranks third in the IL and his 1.09 WHIP ranks second. Among IL starting pitchers, Drabek has limited opposing batters to the third lowest batting average (.211), and he has allowed the fewest baserunners per nine innings (10.14).

A former first round selection of the Philadelphia Phillies (18th overall in 2006), Drabek was claimed on waivers by the Chicago White Sox on March 27, 2015 from Toronto. He began the 2015 campaign with Chicago and went 0-0 with a 5.06 ERA in three games. He was designated for assignment by Chicago on April 20 and outrighted to Charlotte on April 22. In nine seasons at the Minor League level, Drabek is 51-39 with a 3.82 ERA (153 games).

With a 2-0 win against the Norfolk Tides from Norfolk, VA on Sunday, the Knights concluded the first half of the season in first place, a half-game ahead of the Tides. After a three-day break for the Triple-A All-Star Game, the Knights will resume play on Thursday, July 17 and open an eight-game homestand from BB&T Ballpark.
