International League Names Players of the Week

The International League announced today that Rochester outfielder Oswaldo Arcia and Charlotte  pitcher Kyle Drabek have been named the League's Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the period  from July 6-12.  Arcia's honor is the League-best fifth for Rochester this season, following Pat Dean  (April 13-19), Tommy Milone (May 11-17 & May 18-24), and Tyler Duffey (June 22-28).  Charlotte has  now claimed four weekly awards this season, with Drabek joining Carlos Sanchez (April 13-19 &  April 27-May 3), and Erik Johnson (June 15-21). 

OSWALDO ARCIA, Rochester Red Wings          IL BATTER OF THE WEEK 

Red Wings slugger Oswaldo Arcia hit .333 over the past week and led the International League with  four home runs, 10 RBI, six extra-base hits, and 22 total bases.  Arcia has been on a tear since the  calendar turned to July, comfortably leading the International League with seven long balls so far this  month.  He hit a three-run walk-off homer last Monday to give Rochester a dramatic 10-8 victory  against Lehigh Valley.  Though he has played in just 40 games this season with Rochester, Arcia is  tied for the team lead with eight homers for the first place Red Wings.    24-year-old Oswaldo Arcia is in his eighth season as a professional player after being signed by  Minnesota as an amateur free agent.  He made his big league debut in 2013, since which time he has  appeared in 219 games for the Twins.  Arcia is a native of Anaco, Venezuela. 

KYLE DRABEK, Charlotte Knights       IL PITCHER OF THE WEEK 

Right-hander Kyle Drabek lowered his ERA on the season to 2.56 with a pair of solid outings this  week for the first place Charlotte Knights.  Drabek defeated two divisional rivals on the road, picking  up wins at Gwinnett last Monday and Norfolk on Saturday.  He went 6.0 innings in each victory,  allowing a total of just eight hits over 12.0 innings while collecting nine strikeouts.  Drabek evened his  record on the season at 5-5.  For the season he is now 3rd in the League in ERA, and second in WHIP  and batting average against among starting pitchers.    27-year-old Kyle Drabek is in his tenth season as a professional pitcher.  He has appeared in the  majors each of the past six seasons, posting a record of 8-15 in 39 games with Toronto before being  claimed this past March by the White Sox.  He is the son of former National League Cy Young Award  Winner Doug Drabek.  Kyle is a native of Victoria, Texas.
