Wood Ducks Run Wild on Base Paths but Fall Short to Mudcats: Although they stole nine bases, the Down East Wood Ducks fell to the Carolina Mudcats, 5-4 Saturday night. The Wood Ducks pushed four runs across the plate but managed only three hits and were one-for-nine with runners in scoring position.
RUNNIN' FOR THE RECORDS: The Wood Ducks ran themselves into two records in yesterday's game. Jayce Easley surpassed his own record of three stolen bases in one game, with four last night. In total, the Woodies stole nine bases as a team which is the most in a game in team history. Since it is the first season of the Low-A East, it is also the most team stolen bases in a game in the Low-A East.
IT'S IN THE GENES: Right now, two Rangers affiliates sit in first place in their respective leagues and divisions, Frisco (AA Central - South) & Down East (A East - Central). Frisco and Down East also sport the top two team ERAs in all of MiLB. Frisco sits atop all of MiLB with a 2.71 ERA and Down East is right behind them with a 2.80 ERA.
SWIPER KEEP SWIPING!: Being fast and loose on the base paths has been the secret to their success. When the Wood Ducks steal a base they are 17-6 on the season. Currently, the Wood Ducks sit third in all of MiLB with 62 stolen bases on the season. Jayce Easley (15) and Evan Carter (12) lead the way for the Wood Ducks as their two primary and best base stealers.
TAKIN' CARE OF BUSINESS: The bullpen has been heavily relied upon for the Wood Ducks through the first 28 games. Collectively, the pitching staff has thrown 240.2 innings but the bullpen has done most of the heavy lifting with 134.2 innings compared to the starting rotation 106 innings. The Wood Ducks bullpen has pitched to a 2.21 ERA this season with 180 strikeouts.
