AMARILLO, TX - Stephen Douglas went 4-6 with a grand slam and seven RBIs on Monday night as the Amarillo Dillas demolished the Laredo Broncos 18-5 in front of 3,024 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
Dillas starter Taylor Allen (3-2) got the win, going six innings and giving up only six hits and five runs while striking out five. Broncos starter Robert Roth (1-4) got the loss, going two-plus innings, giving up seven runs but only two earned. Reliever Chris Ingoglia got his first save, finishing the last three innings without allowing a run and striking out four.
Amarillo got on the board first in the first inning as Adam De La Garza reached on an error, stole second and went to third on a Carlos Figueroa single. Julio Martinez hit an RBI single to score De La Garza, while Stephen Douglas singled to score Figueroa and Martinez. Douglas stole second, third and scored on wild pitch for a 4-0 lead.
The Broncos scored their first run in the third as Charlie Pagliarulo walked, went to second on an error, went to third and scored on another error for a 4-1 deficit.
The Dillas broke things open in the third as the first nine batters of the inning reached and scored off eight hits and an error for a 12-run lead. Douglas hit a grand slam in the fourth for a 17-1 advantage.
Laredo added two runs in the fifth as DJ Dixon hit a two-RBI single with the bases loaded to pull the deficit to 14. Jermel Lomack scored on a Joaquin Rodriguez RBI single for a 15-run Dillas lead. The Broncos scored two in the sixth on an RBI triple from Jonathan Dziomba and an RBI sacrifice fly from Pagliarulo for an 18-5 score.
Neither team could score after to finish the game with the Dillas winning 18-5.
With the win, the Dillas improve to 41-31 while the Broncos fall to 33-39. Tuesday, Amarillo will take on the Broncos for the final game of a four-game set at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm on AudioSportsOnline via www.myamarillodillas.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout. The game is free of admission courtesy of the Amarillo Dillas.
