DeJesus Dominates as WhiteWings Clinch Season-Series Victory Over Colts

HARLINGEN - Misael DeJesus (5-5) struck out 10 while allowing three hits in eight shutout innings as the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings picked up their ninth win against the San Angelo Colts to clinch the season-series with a 4-2 victory on Monday at Harlingen Field.

The WhiteWings (35-35) are winners of four-straight and 16 of their last 21 games and are now within half of one game of the Colts (36-35), who are losers of four-straight. The WhiteWings also extended their lead over the Laredo Broncos to three games for the fourth and final playoff spot.

The WhiteWings got on the board against Chandler Barnard (6-3) in the bottom of the third. With one out, Roberto Rodriguez reached on an error. Javis Diaz followed with the WhiteWings' first hit and Domenic Di Ricco walked to load the bases. Yeurys Tejeda followed with an RBI-single and Welinson Baez hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.

With one out in the bottom of the fifth, Di Ricco singled and moved to third on a wild pick-off throw. A wild pitch scored Di Ricco to make it 3-0.

Arlon Quiroz hit a one-out single, stole second and third and then scored on a two-out error in the bottom of the eighth to make it 4-0.

That was it against Barnard, who struck out 10 while walking two and allowing nine hits in eight innings. None of the runs he allowed were earned.

The Colts scored a pair of runs against Miguel Matos in the top of the ninth and brought the go-ahead run to the plate, but Mickey Cassidy got Isaac Garcia to fly out for the final out and his fourth save.

The WhiteWings and Colts play for the final time in the regular season at 7:05 p.m. on Twofer Tuesday, presented by RC Cola. Fans will be able to purchase two tickets, hot dogs, chips and/or sodas for the price of one. Fans will also be able to purchase beer at half price. Gates open at 6:05. Right-hander Steve Raburn (2-2) is expected to face left-hander Logan Williamson (1-1).

The WhiteWings are members of United League Baseball, an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Texas that has sent two players to Major League Baseball in Edwar Ramirez (New York Yankees) and Robinson Cancel (New York Mets). In its fifth season, the United League is in the midst of a great summer with teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Harlingen, Laredo, Robstown and San Angelo.
