QMJHL Halifax Mooseheads

Doucet Dominates in Mooseheads' Victory

March 2, 2023 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Halifax Mooseheads News Release

The 21-year-old forward with the Halifax Mooseheads saw his good fortunes continue on Thursday night at Scotiabank Centre where he scored a hat trick and added an assist in a 5-2 Mooseheads victory over the Saint John Sea Dogs. The big game for the QMJHL's leading goal scorer came just one day after the Sherbrooke, QC native signed a three-year, entry level contract with the Detroit Red Wings.

Doucet now has 48 goals and 93 points in his final season of junior hockey before heading to the professional ranks. He combined for a seven point effort with teammate Jordan Dumais who unselfishly passed the puck to Doucet for an empty net goal to seal the victory on a stormy night in Halifax. The weather was poor outside but the fans were energetic inside the building as the Mooseheads secured their 41st win of the season and pulling the team within four points of the first overall Quebec Remparts. Both teams have 11 games remaining on the regular season schedule after tonight.

Get excited @DetroitRedWings fans. Alex Doucet goes coast-to-coast for his QMJHL-best 46th goal.

Goalie Brady James gave Halifax plenty of help between the pipes against a hungry Sea Dogs team who are fighting to get back into the playoff picture. James had to be sharp and was a difference maker with 29 saves on 31 shots. Evan Boucher and Markus Vidicek had the other Mooseheads goals as the home squad kicked off a busy final month of the season. The Moose have 11 games in 21 days, including seven on home ice before the QMJHL playoffs kick off on Friday, March 31st.

Dumais was able to set a new career high in points in the victory and is up to 112 on the season, surpassing his mark of 109 from last year and reaching an even 250 for his career. He is two points shy of Darcy Ashley for third in career points in franchise history and will have a chance to gain further on Ashley when the Mooseheads play host to the Cape Breton Eagles on Saturday at 7pm for DND Appreciation Night. The team will wear special jerseys to honour the military with select jerseys being auctioned online while fans will also have a chance to buy raffle tickets during the game on the remaining jerseys.

Halifax will also entertain the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Sunday afternoon at 4pm in a make-up game for the February 17th postponed contest. Fans who had purchased tickets for February 17th can use those tickets to Sunday's game. Tickets for all seven remaining home games are on sale now at TicketAtlantic.com.
