Knoxville Smokies News Release
KODAK - The Chicago Cubs announced a transaction that impacts their Double-A affiliate Tennessee Smokies roster prior to this afternoon's contest against the Jacksonville Suns at Smokies Stadium.
Chicago Cubs left-handed starting pitcher Felix Doubront's Major League Rehab Assignment has been transferred to Tennessee from Triple-A Iowa. The left-hander is expected to start this afternoon for the Smokies following two outings with the I-Cubs, combining for an 0-1 record and 5.40 ERA (6 ER in 10.0 IP).
The southpaw was acquired by the Cubs from the Boston Red Sox on July 30, 2014 for future considerations after posting a 2-4 record and 6.07 ERA (40 ER in 59.1 IP) in 17 appearances (ten starts) with the Red Sox. Over parts of five seasons with Boston, the 26-year-old has compiled a 26-22 record and 4.82 ERA (224 ER in 418.0 IP) in 98 outings, including 69 starts. Doubront was originally signed by the Red Sox as a non-drafted free agent on July 12, 2004.
The left-hander is set to make the start for the first place Smokies, who enter play today leading the Chattanooga Lookouts by one game in the second half North Division standings, against the Jacksonville Suns, with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The Suns are anticipated to give the ball to RHP Jon Link (NR) for the third game of the series.
