Frederick Keys News Release

Keys outfielder Ronnie Welty doubled twice and homered in game one as the Keys held on to take the opener of its doubleheader with Potomac 8-7. Frederick could not get the bats going again however as its pitching woes got the best of them in an 8-2 defeat in the nightcap.

Leading 2-1 in the fourth inning of the opener, the Keys put together a momentous two-out rally. SS Pedro Florimon and C Brian Ward walked. CF Xavier Avery then doubled home a run to right field pushing the Keys atop 3-1. CF Kyle Hudson, who had four hits in the twin-bill, sinled home both runs before Welty put the finishing touches on the five-run rally. Welty blasted a two-run home run to left field, his 12th of the year and the Keys led 7-1.

Frederick would hang on for dear life as Potomac answered with four runs in the fourth inning. Leading 7-6 in the seventh inning, 3B Billy Rowell homered giving the Keys a critical insurance run. Rowell's ninth of the year made it 8-6.

With a run home and two men on-base, Hudson made a diving catch in left field to save the lead. RHP John Mariotti struck out the next batter to finish off the win.

Potomac got the better of the Keys in the nightcap. Frederick pitchers allowed a run in every inning but the first. Keys starter Luis Noel threw 29 pitches in that first inning, escaping out of a runners at the corner jam. Frederick would not get out of many more.

Nationals RF Bill Rhinehart hit two, two-run home runs in the game sending the Keys to an 8-2 defeat.

Frederick pitchers are struggling mightily having allowed at least six runs in a game in seven straight. The Keys are 3-4 in those games.

The series concludes Saturday, July 31st at 6:35 p.m. with coverage beginning 20 minutes prior on The Keys Baseball Network. RHP Ryan O'Shea will get the start as the Keys look to end the month of July at the .500 mark.

The Keys return home for Kids Eat Free Monday, August 2nd against the Salem Red Sox. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. as all children aged 12 and under will receive a voucher for a free hot dog, chips and soda.
