Doubledays' Win Streak Snapped with 5-4 Loss

Auburn Doubledays News Release

AUBURN, N.Y. - The Auburn Doubledays (8-4) fell for the first time at home this season, and for the first time in the last six games, to the Williamsport Crosscutters (7-5) on Friday night 5-4. The Doubledays are now 2-3 against the Crosscutters this season.

Auburn was up 3-1 heading into the sixth, but four consecutive hits in the inning led to four Williamsport runs, and the Crosscutters never trailed again. The four-run rally came with two outs in the inning. First LF Larry Greene was walked, and then RF Yan Carlos Olmo sent him to third on a single to right field. Second baseman Tyler Greene brought Larry Greene home with a single of his own to center field that pushed Olmo to third. Olmo then scored on a double by SS Roman Quinn that sent Tyler Greene to third. Both Tyler Greene and Quinn scored on a single to left by catcher Chase Numata.

All four Crosscutters runs in the inning came against RHP David Fischer (0-1), who suffered his first loss of the season. He ended up working two innings after Doubledays starter LHP Nick Lee went five innings allowing one earned run on four hits while striking out seven. LHP Andre Kinder (1-0) got the win for Williamsport.

The Doubledays scored one run each in the first, third, and fourth to build their 3-1 advantage going into the sixth. In the first leadoff hitter J.R. Higley hit a solo homerun over the left field wall, giving him two homeruns in his brief rehab stint in Auburn thus far. In the third, a leadoff double by catcher Sandy Leon turned into a run as he scored from third on a wild pitch. The next inning DH Craig Manuel leadoff with a single, he advanced to second on a passed ball, and he scored on a double by Higley.

The Doubledays scored their fourth and final run in the seventh as they tried to come back from a 5-3 deficit. It was another long ball that did the trick, this time off the bat of RF Angelbeth Montilla, who had struck out in his three previous plate appearances. However, that was all Auburn could muster as RHP Geoff Broussard pitched the final three innings to pick up the save, allowing just the one run for Montilla's homer and four hits total in those three innings.

The Doubledays and Crosscutters finish up their three game series on Saturday, June 30. Auburn will send RHP Silvio Medina (0-0) to the mound for his third start of the year. He will square off against RHP Jordan Guth (0-0) for Williamsport. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm. There will be window clings handed out and fireworks following the game. Tickets are available by calling the Doubledays box office at 315-255-2489 or by going online to www.auburndoubledays.com.
