Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Waterloo Black Hawks were within one goal in the third period but ended up taking an 8-4 loss while visiting the Des Moines Buccaneers Friday.
H.T. Lenz and Josh Myers scored less than a minute apart in the opening period to give Des Moines the lead. A J.T. Brown goal at 10:42 brought the Hawks back within one.
The Buccaneers scored in the first and last minutes of the second period. Brett Bruneteau and Rocco Carzo were responsible. The tally by Carzo was his second of the frame. Matt Johnson redirected a puck into the net at 13:38 for Waterloo, helping keep the deficit at 5-2 by intermission.
A promising comeback started with a power play score by Jordan Samuels-Thomas at 4:01 of the third. Another power play strike by Patrick Wey 2:21 later brought the Hawks as close as they would come. Joe Gleason, Matt White, and Alex Chiasson put the game out of reach, starting at 7:09.
The Hawks should be feisty Saturday when the Sioux Falls Stampede visit Young Arena. The 7:05 game has good seats still remaining. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive Waterloo Black Hawks mini-sticks from Casey's General Store.
