Texas Legends News Release
BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Texas Legends (6-7) ran out of time in a career-topping performance by Tyler Dorsey, falling to the Birmingham Squadron 135-138.
Both teams maxed out at a 12-point advantage in a back-and-forth matchup that came down to the wire. Dorsey and Grant Riller had combined for 41 at the half as Texas edged the home team 65-64. The Legends stayed hot from outside but struggled on the boards, ending the night with 24 rebounds to Birmingham's 45.
The Squadron found their largest lead early in the fourth and fought to maintain a double-digit edge, matching Texas basket for basket. The Legends went on a 16-4 run midway through the fourth to erase the deficit and stayed within six for the final minutes. With seconds to play, Dorsey knocked down a contested outside shot and finished the four-point play at the line to put Texas within one. Zylan Cheatham sank two final free throws and Texas missed two final tying attempts to give Birmingham the 2-1 lead on the season series.
Dorsey finished 8-of-13 from outside for 47 total points. Riller had his third straight night of both 30 points and career highs with 35, 5 assists, and 3 blocks. Tyler Hall had 15 points all from outside and Josh Nzeakor finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds.
Birmingham had eight players land in double-digits led by Zylan Cheatham with 24 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. James Kelly Sr. grabbed the game's only double-double of 10 points, 10 rebounds.
Texas will return home to host the Austin Spurs this Friday and Memphis Hustle Saturday with both games tipping off at 7:30pm. For tickets or game information call 214-469-0822 or visit www.TexLegends.com.
