Hidalgo, Texas --- The Rio Grande Valley Dorados today announced the opening roster for their 2006 af2 football season, which begins this Saturday in Fresno, Ca. against the Central Valley Coyotes.

Eight of the 22 players on the opening roster are returnees from last season's team that advanced to the National Conference Championship game.

Quarterbacks Josh Kellett and J.R. Davies are back in the fold, while receivers Dwight Counter, Pierre Thomas and Travis McAlpine will be back. Linemen Curtis Jeter and Antoine Murphy will provide support up front, and defensive specialist Carl Bucknor returns for a second season in the Rio Grande Valley.

The seventh af2 season, and third for the Dorados, opens this weekend. The Dorados begin their quest for the ArenaCup at Central Valley this Saturday (9:30 p.m. CST) before heading home to battle Tulsa the following week.

The Dorados begin the home portion of the 16-game season Saturday, April 8, vs. Tulsa at Obra Homes Field at Dodge Arena.

All home games will be broadcast live on Televisa XERV-9 (cable 19), while all home and road games are scheduled to be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1240. Games that conflict with Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees hockey playoff games, such as this Saturday's season opener, will not air on ESPN 1240.
