Dorados Get Sack Attack Back

Hidalgo, Texas --- The Rio Grande Valley Dorados, who open the home portion of their fifth arenafootball2 season on April 26, today announced the team has been assigned OL/DL's Tony McClain and Quinton Staton. Both players were key elements of last season's No. 1 ranked defense that set the af2 record for sacks (66) in one season.

McClain, 25, is a San Marcos, Texas, native who appeared in seven games last season for the Dorados and made a quick impact, posting 10.5 tackles and 4.5 sacks while adding 5.5 tackles for loss and four fumble recoveries. His second quarter sack on July 7 at Laredo pushed the Dorados season total to 53, setting a single season af2 record for sacks. McClain (6-foot-4, 275 pounds) was recently released by the Kansas City Brigade of the Arena Football League (AFL).

Staton, 24, led af2 with 18.5 sacks last season. The 6-foot-2, 260-pound Chattanooga, Tenn., native was second in the league with 22.5 tackles for loss and finished tied for third on the Dorados with 44.5 tackles. He was recently released by the Orlando Predators of the AFL.

LOCAL TRYOUT THIS SATURDAY

There is still time to register for this weekend's local tryout camp on Saturday, March 1, 2008, from 1-4 p.m. at Cats Stadium in Edinburg.

Players will participate in various position specific drills in addition to being timed in the 40-yard dash, broad jump and short shuttle. Players should dress appropriately for the tryout, including proper footwear for Cats Stadium's field turf. The $30 pre-registration fee ($50 day-of, cash only day-of) will cover the facility fee.

ABOUT THE DORADOS

The Dorados went 15-1 last season and won the Southwest Division Championship. Several of last year's players have signed on to play with Arena Football League (AFL) teams, the top level of the indoor game.

Dorados single game tickets will go on sale at all TicketMaster outlets, including online and at the Dodge Arena Box Office, on Monday, March 31 at 10 a.m. Season and group tickets are already available by calling 956-843-7825. Tickets start as low as $112 for the full season and $14 for single games. Group tickets remain as low as $12 per game. The home half of the 2008 season kicks off on Saturday, April 26, vs. Bossier-Shreveport.
