Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release

Bakersfield, Ca. -- The Rio Grande Valley Dorados fell 53-45 Saturday night vs. the Bakersfield Blitz at Rabobank Arena, and may have lost starting QB Josh Kellett in the process. Kellett went out of the game early in the second quarter with an undisclosed injury to his right throwing arm.

J.R. Davies took over for Kellett and threw five TD passes, including a 25-yard toss to Chris Canty late in the first half and a 40-yard completion to Mel Long in the third. Canty hauled in two TD passes, while teammate Dwight Counter had three as the Dorados were the first team in three weeks to post more than 28 points vs. Bakersfield. The Blitz defense entered the night leading af2 with an average of 34.5 points allowed.

RGV came within three points of the Blitz twice, once in the first half with Dustin Bell blasting a 47-yard field goal (his longest of the season), and later in the third on Counter's second TD catch of the night. That TD followed up a 47-yard fumble return for a TD by Jerry Turner to make it a 33-30 Blitz lead. Costly fourth-quarter penalties turned the tide in the Blitz's favor for good.

Blitz QB Mike Wall connected with Nathan Munson for a trio of TD passes and threw six TD passes on the night. Turner was named the US Army Ironman of the Game, while Munson was the Schutt Offensive Player of the Game. Dan Kegler was the ADT Defensive Player of the Game.

The Dorados drop to 4-3 on the season and continues its three-game road swing next Saturday at Amarillo and on June 3 at Oklahoma City. Week 9 is the Dorados first bye week of the season. They finally return home to Obra Homes Field at Dodge Arena on June 10 vs. Amarillo.
