Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release
HIDALGO, TX: February 1, 2005 â The Rio Grande Valley Dorados of arenafootball2 are delighted to announce they have been assigned lineman Wil Goff by the af2 for the 2005 season. "Wil brings strength to our line," said Dorados Head Coach Kevin Guy. "He also adds speed to the line and has good work habits."
Goff (gawf) is a 6'5" 290-pound lineman that completed his college career in 2003 at University of Redlands in his hometown of Redlands, California. He played there during the 2003 season and finished second on the squad in tackles with 44.5 (23 solo) and also had 6.5 tackles for a loss. He was chosen to the 2003 Aztec Bowl (Cancun, Mexico), which is an annual NCAA Division III All-Star team, as selected by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), which represents the United States and competes against the best college football players in Mexico.
The 24 year-old began his college tenure at Riverside Community College (Riverside, CA) in 1999 and started as a freshman, participating in 10 games and registering 25 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Was heavily recruited by Division I schools to transfer, but suffered a rare life threatening injury in 2000. In the season opener against Orange Coast, he cut his elbow, went off to have it taped up, and then returned to action moments later as normal. Days later, he was placed in the hospital with Necrotizing Fascitis (flesh-eating bacteria), which required an in depth surgery to save his life. He ended up earning a medical redshirt that season and regained his health to return for a sophomore season in 2001. That season, he garnered First Team Mission Conference All-Northern Division honors, as he had 48 tackles (34 solo) and 2.5 sacks. He also had an interception, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. Goff transferred in 2002 to the University of Tulsa, but did not letter. He then transferred to Redlands. Prior to college, Goff was a three-year letterwinner and two-year starter at Redlands High School, where he was all-conference as a senior.
Goff's addition to the Dorados roster gives them 14 members announced to the 2005 roster, joining Brian Baker (QB), John Bradley (OL/DL), J.R. Davies (QB), Sterling Finney (WR/DB),Will Goodloe (OL/DL), Josh Kellett (QB), Joseph Lemberg (OS), Moses Lewis (TBD), Travis McAlpine (WR/DB), Ben McCombs (DE, FB/LB), David Morrill (FB/LB), Pierre Thomas (WR/DB) and Josh Tubbs (OL/DL).
