Riptide Re-assigned Lineman

San Diego Riptide News Release
The San Diego Riptide beefed up their defensive and offensive line with returning OL/DL Patrick Girardi.
Girardi played three games for the San Diego Riptide last season. In his first af2 game against the Central Valley Coyotes, Girardi posted both a sack and a forced fumble. In college, Girardi played for the Columbia University Lions as a guard and tackle, and was named to first-team All-Ivy League in 2002.
"Patrick's a good size lineman," Coach Sean Ponder said. "Obviously, the whole game starts up front. We're bringing a good handful of players to camp to compete for positions, and Patrick will have an opportunity to do just that."
The Riptide will be hosting it second open tryout this weekend in hopes of finding local talent for the 2005 roster. It will be held at Grossmont College and is open to the public. Newly assigned quarterback Criag Whelihan will also take the field and assist during the tryout. In addition to seeing San Diego's finest compete for spots on the team, Jamal Cook from local radio station Jammin' Z90 will also be cutting corners and running routes.
