Roanoke Dazzle News Release

ROANOKE, Va., Dec. 14 - The Arkansas RimRockers got 22 points in a huge fourth quarter from Donta Smith in route to a 119-114 victory over the Roanoke Dazzle. Smith had 36 points for the game and was one of six RimRocker players who scored in double figures.

Smith's huge game spoiled the debut of Roanoke Dazzle point guard Will Bynum, who led the Dazzle with 28 points and nine assists. Bynum was one of three Dazzle players to score 20 or more points and one of four total Dazzle players to score in double figures.

The game went back and forth throughout, not just on the floor but on the scoreboard as well. At the half, the RimRockers held a eight point lead, 52-44 only to have the Dazzle make a run in the third quarter and take a 81-79 lead at the end of the quarter. In the fourth quarter there were five lead changes with the RimRockers making the final run to take the victory.

"Basketball is a game of runs" said RimRocker Coach Joe Harge "The way we play, we can score in bunches."

Joining Smith in double figures for the RimRockers were Pape Sow with 17, Clay Tucker with 15, Brian Jackson with 13, Myron Allen with 11 and Shawnson Johnson with 10 points, respectively. Kareem Reid didn't reach double figures in points, but was a huge factor dishing out 16 assists.

The Dazzle fought hard behind Bynum, who was playing his first game since suffering a strained hamstring in the pre-season and Isiah Victor, who recorded another double-double which is his third of the season.

Dazzle Coach Kent Davison was pleased with his point guard's first game saying "He's a hard guy to guard, but he is going to have to get his feet wet. He hasn't played in three weeks."

Along with Bynum's 28 points, Anthony Grundy had 26 points, Victor had 17 rebounds to go along with his 20 points and Peter John Ramos chipped in 18.

With the win, the RimRockers improve to 6-2 on the season and remain in Roanoke throughout the weekend to face these same Dazzle with the games being this Friday, December 16 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 17 in a matinee game at 1:00 p.m. Both games are at the Roanoke Civic Center. The loss drops the Dazzle to 3-6 on the season.
