NEW YORK ‚¬" Landon Donovan is off the schneid, and the rest of the league has taken notice.

The LA Galaxy star was named the MLS Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters on Monday after he scored two goals and added an assist in the Galaxy ‚¬â„¢s 3-0 win over the Portland Timbers on Saturday at The Home Depot Center.

Donovan ‚¬" who has battled a knee injury in recent weeks and made his first start since April 2 ‚¬" scored his first goal of the season from the penalty spot in the eighth minute after he was fouled inside the Portland box by Timbers defender Rodney Wallace.

He added a second goal midway through the second half with a wide-open snap header to the far post off a cross from Juan Pablo Angel.

Donovan also assisted on Chad Barrett ‚¬â„¢s beautiful right-footed goal in the fourth minute, which set the tone early for the Galaxy ‚¬â„¢s most emphatic win of the season.
