
Don Matthews to become Canadian citizen

Montreal, October 19, 2004 - The winningest in the history of the Canadian Football League Don Matthews will become a Canadian citizen this Saturday.
Judge George Springate, member of the Alouettes' 1977 championship team, will preside the ceremony which will take place before the game against the Ottawa Renegades at Olympic Stadium this Saturday at 1 p.m.
"I worked in Canada all my life and I plan to retire here," said Don Matthews. "Both of my parents are Canadian and it is an honour for me to be able to become a Canadian citizen."
Matthews started his Canadian Football League coaching career in 1977 with the Edmonton Eskimos. He is the winningest coach in CFL history (211 wins). He has won 10 Grey Cups. His mother is from New Brunswick and his father comes from Prince Edward Island. Don Matthews was born in Amesbury, Massachusetts.
