Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE, WI (January 30, 2005) - The Major Indoor Soccer League announced today that Milwaukee Wave defender, Chad Dombrowski, has been named the league's Defensive Player of the Week. Dombrowski's award marks the fifth time a member of the Wave has been honored by the league as Defensive Player of the Week.
The UW-Milwaukee alumnus scored a key second quarter goal against the California Cougars on Friday night that helped the Wave pull away from their hosts in Stockton, California. He also contributed an assist to Milwaukee's offensive outburst against the Blast on Sunday. In addition to his efforts on the offensive side of the field, he's also a strong defensive presence on the defensive end, where he helped to keep the league's leading offense two goals below their season average.
The 2005-06 season is Dombrowski's second in the MISL and also his second with the Wave. Through 16 games, he is third in the league and second on the Wave with 17 blocks. Dombrowski has also contributed four goals and two assists on offense. He is a big part of a Wave defense that is tied for the lowest goals against average in the league (4.8).
Dombrowski signed with the Wave midway through the 2004-05 season after being selected by Milwaukee in the 2003 MISL Amateur Draft. In 39 career games (including four playoff games) between this year and last season, he has contributed five goals, three assists and 29 blocks. He has also played for the Wave United and Minnesota Thunder.
The MISL also named their Goalkeeper and Offensive Players of the Week on Monday. The Chicago Storm's Danny Waltman took home the Goalkeeper of the Week honors for stopping 12 of 15 shots in the Storm's first road win (4-3) over Philadelphia on Saturday. Carlos "Chile" Farias of the St. Louis Steamers scored 11 points in three games to earn the Offensive Player of the Week award.
The Wave will face the Blast in Baltimore on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. It is Milwaukee's final contest before hosting the 2006 MISL All-Star Game Saturday, February 11 at 7:05 p.m. at the U.S. Cellular Arena. After the All-Star Game, the next home game for the Wave Will be on Sunday, February 19 at 1:05 p.m. against the Chicago Storm. All Wave games are broadcast on The Joy, 1340 AM and can be heard via webcast at www.MilwaukeeWave.com.
