St. Louis Steamers News Release

ST. LOUIS - Carlos "Chile" Farias has been given the MISL Offensive Player of the Week Award after a strong showing in the Steamers three games last week. Overall, he totaled 3 goals and 8 assists in the games combined and has now leaped out in front for the lead in points on the team with 26 (6 goals, 20 assists).

A native of Santiago, Chile, Farias has come on to rebound after a bit of a slow start. In the 12-3 victory over Baltimore (Jan. 24th), Farias scored two goals and added three assists to help the team dismantle the visiting Blast. In the team's following game in Baltimore (Jan. 28th), Farias earned five assists in the game including helping teammate Jamar Beasley score a hat trick, assisting on all three first half goals. Against the California Cougars (Jan. 29th), Farias scored a goal in the 5-1 win, adding a little insurance to their lead in the fourth quarter.

The week's performance has vaulted Farias into the MISL lead in assists for the season with 20 in 14 games so far. Farias has also scored six goals on only 32 shots on the season including a game winner. In the month of January, he has scored four goals and has 13 assists. A former MISL All-Star and All-MISL selection, Farias joined the Steamers on March 18, 2005 in a trade with Baltimore. In 11 games for St. Louis, he totaled seven goals and 10 assists. Prior to the trade, Farias played in 25 games for Baltimore (22 goals and 19 assists). In 2003-04, Farias led the MISL in assists (43) and the Baltimore Blast in points.
