Dogs Win 10th Of The Season At "The Swamp"
June 29, 2012 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
The Fayetteville SwampDogs improved to 18-10 on the season by beating the Martinsville Mustangs 3-0 at home on Friday night. Layne Somsen (South Dakota State) was spectacular for the Dogs as the starter.
The righty fanned nine Mustangs in seven innings of work, while only surrendering four runners over that stretch. The victory improves his record to 3-0 on the year as he as emerged as one of the premiere starters in the Coastal Plain League.
Stephen Frey (Monmouth) and Tyler Brunnemann (Hardin-Simmons) combined to close out the game with an inning each of relief, as Brunnemann picked up his fourth save of the season.
All three runs were scored by the end of the second inning, as Zach Gawrych (Tampa) led off the bottom of the first by reaching second base on a throwing error by Martinsville. After stealing third, he scored his league-leading 28th run of the season on a Mike Tauchman (Bradley) RBI-single. Tauchman stole both second and third base before scoring on a Reed Harper (Austin Peay) RBI single.
Tyler Ding (Tampa) led off the second with a double to right center field, and came around to score on a Gawrych sacrifice fly to give the Dogs their third run of the ball game.
The next SwampDogs home game is Saturday, June 30th, where the SwampDogs will salute the military presented by Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. One-of-a-kind jerseys will be auctioned following the game to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.
The SwampDogs urge fans to purchase their tickets for the July 3rd Fireworks Extravaganza as soon as possible, as only a limited number of seats remain for the game.
