Forest City Owls News Release

Thomasville, NC- The Hi-Toms hung tough early and came away with the big runs late for a 5-4 win against the Owls on Friday night. With Ben Fernandez on second base, Justin Roland sent a base hit through the left side. Hernandez rounded third base enough to convince Dykota Spiess to throw home. Unfortunately, the throw sailed past home plate and allowed Hernandez to score what would be the winning run. James Ferguson came on in the 9th to complete the win, earning his 6th save.

Ryan Hander was saddled with his second loss of the season. Both of them have come in his only two relief appearances, both against the Hi-Toms. Henri Faucheux picked up his first win with two and one-third innings of relief, allowing just one run. Faucheux replaced starter Sam Smith who staked the Owls to a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the 6th inning.

Alex Close hit his second home run of the season to put the Owls up 3-0 in the 6th inning. The Liberty product launched a solo shot to straightaway center field. Nate Chong drove in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the 1st inning. Ryan Welke made it 2-0 in favor of Forest City with an RBI groundout in the 4th inning.

Forest City was unable to hold the early lead through the late innings. Bryce Danielson came on in the 7th inning and retired the first two batters he faced. However, the next two squeezed out infield singles. That brought up Kyle Brandenburg who blasted a pitch over the left field wall to give Thomasville a 4-3 lead. Bryan Aanderud brought it right back though with an RBI groundout in the 8th inning to tie the game.

The Owls travel to Asheboro for a 7:05 PM start against the Copperheads. Forest City plays host to Team USA on Sunday, with a special start time of 5:00 PM at McNair Field.
