Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
The Fayetteville SwampDogs split a doubleheader with the Columbia Blowfish on Wednesday night, as they completed a stretch of four games in two days at "The Swamp." The Dogs won the first game 6-3, but dropped the second contest by a final score of 6-2.
Game one was a continuation of a previously suspended game on July 9th, when rain put the game on hold between the two teams in Columbia.
The game resumed with the Dogs in front 5-0 in the top of the 4th, just as the game had been left. Dan Smith (Monmouth) was back on the hill for Fayetteville, as he worked through eight total innings and allowed just two earned runs.
The Dogs added a run in the sixth inning, as John Howell (Binghamton) got the inning started with a leadoff walk. After an error allowed Joe Ciamacco (Ohio State) to reach base, Andrew Parker (Towson) laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to second and third. All-Star outfielder Mike Tauchman (Bradley) drove in Howell with an RBI-groundout to first base.
Columbia scored three runs in the ninth, but All-Star closer Tyler Brunnemann (Hardin-Simmons) came in to pick up his eighth save of the year and seal the victory. He has yet to allow an earned run this season.
The Dogs took a 2-0 lead in game two, as the first three Dogs walked to begin the bottom of the first inning. Tauchman and Sal Giardina (Lynn) both picked up RBI-groundouts to shortstop to plate the first two runs of the game.
Fayetteville would go on to strand seven runners in the game as Blowfish pitching stifled the offense the rest of the way. Columbia's offense recorded five consecutive base hits with two outs in the fourth inning to score four runs and take a two-run advantage. They would go on to add a run in the fifth and seventh frames to take game two by a final score of 6-2.
Ciamacco reached base in each of his four plate appearances in the night, stealing two bases and scoring one run.ÃÂ
The next SwampDogs home game is on Tuesday, July 31st, as it's Back to School Night at "The Swamp." Young fans will receive back-to-school gifts and teachers get $1 off general admission ticket pricing.
