Forest City Owls News Release
Forest City, NC- The Forest City Owls and Gastonia Grizzlies combined for 31 runs on 36 hits Wednesday night. When the dust finally settled, the Owls beat the Grizzlies 19-12, the most runs Forest City has scored this season and in franchise history. After leading 8-2 entering the 6th inning, the Owls had to endure a couple of comeback bids by the Grizzlies, but were able to outpace their rivals.
The win clinches the 12-game season series for Forest City as the team won its 7th contest against Gastonia. The Owls now can claim the Silver Cup for the second straight year and the fourth time in five seasons. The trophy is named after the Silver family, owners of both the Grizzlies and Owls franchises.
Luke Tollison highlighted an eight-run 7th inning with a tremendous two-run homer over the mini-Monster in left field, his second long ball after the game. The newcomer is now 6-for-9 in two games with two homers, a double, three runs scored and 3 RBI. Nate Chong reached in all six plate appearances with four singles, two walks, and 3 RBI. Those runs driven in make Chong the first player on the Owls to reach the 30 RBI plateau. Alex Close drove in four runs as well for the Owls.
Ryan Tezak earned his team-leading 5th win of the season. After giving up two runs in the top of the 1st inning, the righty settled down and ended up striking out seven Grizzlies over five innings of work. Forest City forced Gastonia to use seven pitchers, the most by any opponent this year. The Owls also scored in all eight innings they came to bat.
