Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
BAIE-COMEAU, Que. - The Saint John Sea Dogs overcame a scrappy Baie-Comeau Drakkar team and a 10-minute technical delay on the way to a 5-2 win in Game 3 of their President's Cup quarter-final.
Jonathan Huberdeau had a goal and two assists with Tomas Jurco, Ryan Tesink, and Stephen MacAulay each adding a goal and a helper as Saint John took a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoff series. Stanislav Galiev chipped in a single and Mathieu Corbeil made 29 saves in a game that saw the lights go out in the third period, sending both teams to the dressing room.
Jonathan Lessard and David Rose scored for the Drakkar and Philippe Cadorette made 33 saves
The best-of-seven Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoff series continues with Game 4 Wednesday in Baie-Comeau.
Galiev opened the scoring at 4:21 when Zack Phillips forced a turnover and set him up for a one-timer, his seventh of the playoffs.
Lessard evened things up at 4:11 of the second, with Rose giving the Drakkar a brief lead at 18:11.
Just 44 seconds later, however, Jurco equalized with a bank shot off Cadorette. Jonathan Huberdeau and Tesink assisted on the goal, Jurco's seventh of the playoffs.
Galiev had a chance to put the Dogs back in front on a breakaway early in the third, but he put it wide.
Tesink, however, made no mistake on a high snap shot to Cadorette's glove side at the 2:31 mark. Stephen MacAulay and Jason Seed assisted on Tesink's third.
Then a bizarre turn of events ground the game to a halt with 16:25 left in the final frame. Several arena lights at the Henry Leonard Centre went out, sending both teams to their dressing rooms for about 10 minutes.
After action resumed, Corbeil came up with a pair of big pad saves in a scramble midway through the frame. Later in the period the Dogs pushed for an insurance marker but Cadorette stopped Beaulieu's shot and Huberdeau's rebound attempt went through the crease.
The Dogs did break through on Huberdeau's back-breaker with 2:46 left. Jurco and Gauthier assisted on the goal, Huberdeau's fourth. MacAulay added an empty-netter at 18:34 with assists from Huberdeau and Charles Roussel.
Tim Roszell will have the call of Game 4 onNews 88.9 FM and fans can also catch all the action online via the official TELUS QMJHL webcast.
