Dogs Earn Series Split

July 18, 2002 - Northern League (NL)
Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs News Release

Colonie, New York- The Diamond Dogs earned a series split with the Quebec Les Capitales with a 3-2 win at Heritage Park tonight. Diamond Dogs starting pitcher Scott Berney was the story of the evening, allowing just one run six hits in his six innings of work. Berney picked up his fifth win of the year. Quebec's Keith Dunn was the tough luck loser in the game. Dunn pitched a complete game, and suffered just his second loss of the season.

Offensively, the Diamond Dogs scored all three of their runs in their first two plate appearances. Angel Valdez lead the way with an RBI triple and a run scored, and Gerald Butt and Dan Singletary each had RBI sacrifice flies.

Quebec scored solo runs in the sixth and got one run in the ninth, but left the potential game-tying run at third base when Robbie Kison popped out to end the game. Interestingly, the Diamond Dogs only had one player (Julio Zorrilla) make four plate appearances in the win. Something you don't see every day in the winning team.

The Diamond Dogs head up the Northway to take on Adirondack tomorrow night. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
