Dogs Drop Twin Bill To Marlins

The Fayetteville SwampDogs dropped both games of a doubleheader to the Morehead City Marlins on Tuesday night, dropping their record to 10-5 in the second half of the season. The Marlins took game one 11-4, and triumphed 5-2 in the night's second contest.
All-Star shortstop Reed Harper (Austin Peay) saw his hit-streak end at 16 games, as he went 3-4 in game one but 0-2 in game 2.
Fayetteville trailed 4-0 after three innings of play in the first game, before Harper scored on a Tyler Ding (Tampa) RBI-double. After the Marlins scored a run in the sixth, the Dogs rallied for three runs in their half of the inning, pulling within one run entering the game's final frame.
The first three SwampDogs picked up singles to begin the inning, as Harper, Sal Giardina (Lynn), and Ding all reached base safely. All three came in to score on errors by the Marlins' defense.
Morehead City extended their lead in the seventh, and won the first game by a final score of 11-4. Fayetteville starter Max McDonald (St. Edward's) worked through six innings on the hill and struck out four.
Game two began with the Dogs taking a 1-0 lead after the first full inning, as Joe Ciamacco (Ohio State) scored from third on an errant pickoff attempt by Morehead City at second base.
The Marlins answered with two runs in the second inning, and added three more in the third to make it 5-1 in their favor.
A Giardina sacrifice fly made it 5-2 in the sixth, as Mike Tauchman (Bradley) came in to score. The 5-2 score would prove to be final, however, as the Dogs dropped their fifth game of the second half.
The All-Star outfielderTauchman stole his 30th base of the season in game two, making him the only player in the CPL with more than 22 on the season. Kyle Norville (Barton) started and went six innings for the Dogs, allowing three earned runs.
The next SwampDogs home game is on Wednesday, July 25th, where it's Dunn Night at the ballpark, as fans can come meet local neighbors and business people. The first 500 fans, 21 and older, will receive a pilsner glass courtesy of Healy Wholesale. For tickets call (910)-426-5900.
The Fayetteville SwampDogs are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league.
