Harper, Lynch Named Rawlings CPL Players of the Week for Week Eight

The Coastal Plain League announced today that Fayetteville's Reed Harper was named the Rawlings Hitter of the Week, while Martinsville's Jay Lynch was honored as the Rawlings Pitcher of the Week for week eight of action (July 16 - July 21).

Harper, a junior at Austin Peay, led the league with a .556 average through five starts for the SwampDogs on the week. Furthermore, he finished in the Top 5 of seven different offensive categories, including a league-high 10 RBIs. Of his 10 hits, three were doubles, to go with two runs scored and 13 total bases. Harper also had a slugging percentage of .722, an on-base percentage of .579 and was a perfect 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts.

On the mound, Lynch pitched masterfully for the Mustangs in a complete game shutout of the Forest City Owls on July 20. The 6-2, 200-pound righty from Binghamton went a complete nine, scattered two hits, walked a pair, and struck out seven. The junior earned not only the win, but maintained a perfect 0.00 ERA for the week, and held opposing batters to a .069 average to go with an impressive 0.44 WHIP.

The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teamsplaying in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats.Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore,the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 53 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
