Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release

Matt Kemp went 2-4 and hit his 17th home run to lead to Dodgers to a 7-4 win over the Clearwater Threshers Tuesday afternoon. Beltran Perez turned in 3 1/3 scoreless relief innings to pick up the victory as the Dodgers improved to 50-34. The series continues Wednesday night at 7:00 PM at Holman Stadium.

Vero got on the board early with a first inning run, but the lead was short lived. Jamie Hoffman led off the first for the Dodgers with a single and eventually scored when he stole third base and came home when the throw went into left field. However, in the second inning, Tim Moss followed three walks with a grand slam to center. That put the Threshers ahead 4-1 and knocked starter Glenn Bott out of the game.

The Dodgers answered immediately. Cole Bruce led off the bottom of the second with his second home run. A.J. Ellis then reached on an error and scored on Anthony Raglani's triple. Hoffman's sacrifice fly to right brought home Raglani and tied the score.

The score remained tied at 4 until the fifth inning. Jimmy Rohan led off with a double and one out later Kemp delivered his home run. Vero finished their scoring in the seventh when Tony Abreu reached on an error. He went to third on a double from Kemp and scored on Cory Dunlap's sacrifice fly.

The Vero Beach bullpen shut down Clearwater's bats after the second inning. Perez's 3 1/3 shutout innings included no walks and three strikeouts to give him the victory. Casey Hoorelbeke followed with three scoreless innings of his own. He allowed just two infield singles and one walk. Orlando Rodriguez struck out two batters in a scoreless ninth for his first save.
