Dodgers Lose 5-3

The Vero Beach Dodgers beat the St. Lucie Mets Saturday at their Independence Day Celebration, and the Mets returned the favor Sunday beating the Dodgers 5-3 at Holman Stadium. Anthony Raglani went 3-4 and missed the cycle by a triple. Matt Kemp added two hits including a 2-run homer, his 15th of the season, in a losing cause. The series returns to Tradition Field in St. Lucie Monday night at 6:00 PM.

The Mets took an early lead in the first inning when Blake Whealy singled in two runs against Dodgers starter Julio Pimentel. Those were the only runs St. Lucie would get against Pimentel, who threw five innings and did not factor in the decision. He struck out five, allowed five hits and two walks.

Raglani's solo home run came in the second and Kemp's 2-run blast put the Dodgers ahead 3-2 in the fourth inning. But Vero failed to score after that, leaving runners at second base with less than two out three times in the remaining innings.

Meanwhile, Shawn Bowman cranked a 2-run homer to left in the sixth inning off reliever Beltran Perez to put the Mets back on top. It was his 14th of the season and first against the Dodgers. Whealy drove in his third run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Vero Beach manager Scott Little was ejected in the bottom of the eighth for arguing a called strike three. There were several hotly contested close plays during the course of the game. It was the third time this year Little has been tossed.
