Dodgers Go Bust in Reno Finale

Reno, Nev. - Rehabbing Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu delivered five strong innings, but the rest of the Oklahoma City Dodgers pitching staff struggled in an 8-2 loss Tuesday night against the Reno Aces at Greater Nevada Field.

Ryu allowed one run and five hits and completed his five scheduled inning on 71 pitches, including 51 strikes. After allowing a run in the first inning, Ryu retired 14 of the final 17 batters he faced. The lefty induced eight groundouts and notched three strikeouts with no walks. Despite his solid outing, Ryu (0-1) was charged with the loss.

The Aces (60-55) got to Ryu three batters into his start. With one out in the first inning, Chris Owings bounced a single up the middle and scored on a RBI double to deep center field by Christian Walker.

With the Dodgers (61-51) being shut down at the plate, Ryu kept the score at 1-0 until he left the game. But once the Dodgers bullpen took over, the Aces scored seven runs on seven hits between the sixth and eighth innings.

Reno scored twice in the sixth. Walker led off with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kevin Cron. Jamie Westbrook followed with a solo homer to center field to make it 3-0.

After being held to no runs and four hits through six innings by Reno starting pitcher Taylor Clarke, the Dodgers started of the seventh inning with three straight hits. Henry Ramos hit a RBI double to right field to get the Dodgers on the board, and Angelo Mora came up next with a RBI groundout to make it a one-run game.

With the tying run at second base and one out, Rocky Gale hit a sharp line drive toward Reno shortstop Ildemaro Vargas. Vargas made a leaping catch and threw to second base to double off Ramos and end the inning.

The Aces responded with a back-breaking, four-run rally in the bottom of the inning. Owings hit a two-run double and later scored on another sac fly by Cron. Westbrook then connected on his second homer of the night to make it 7-2.

Reno tallied its final run in the eighth inning after Kristopher Negron led off with a double and eventually came home on a sacrifice fly by Yasmany Tomás.

Although the Dodgers tallied 10 hits, they went just 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Donovan Solano and Andrew Toles led OKC with two hits apiece.

Clarke (11-7) tied his season high with seven innings and became just the second pitcher in the PCL to 11 wins this season. He surrendered two runs and seven hits, with no walks and five strikeouts.

The Dodgers lost four of their last five games on their West Coast road trip and ended up with a 3-4 record over the seven games.

The Dodgers have a day off Wednesday and return home Thursday to begin a four-game series against the Memphis Redbirds.
