Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release
(Sarasota, FL) - Following a 30-minute rain delay the Vero Beach Dodgers poured on the offense in a 9-5 win at Sarasota Thursday night. Sergio Pedroza drove in four runs and eight of the nine Dodgers had hits. Mike Megrew picked up his first win of the year with four relief innings. The Dodgers attempt to split the 4-game series Friday night at 7:00 PM.
After three innings the Dodgers trailed 4-2. Then the team sent 12 men to the plate in the 4th to take their first lead of the series. Juan Apodaca started the onslaught with a double off the top of the wall. Jamie Hoffmann singled him to third and Xavier Paul brought him in with a base hit to left. That knocked out starter James Avery (5-7).
Blake DeWitt then took first on an infield single to load the bases with no outs. Drew Locke followed with a line drive to right that scored two runners and put the Dodgers ahead 5-4. After Cole Bruce walked to re-load the bases, Pedroza delivered a screaming drive between center and right to clear the bases and give the Dodgers a 4-run lead. Pedroza would later scored on Apodaca's second hit of the inning.
Megrew was in control the rest of the way. In his four innings, he allowed only one run and struck out four. Zach Hammes pitched two perfect innings to finish the 3-hour, 26-minute game.
