Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release

(Port St. Lucie, FL) – The second half East Division championship is officially within reach as the Vero Beach Dodgers topped the St. Lucie Mets 4-2 Monday night at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie. With the win, the Dodgers could possibly wrap up the division Tuesday night at Holman Stadium.

RHP Casey Hoorelbeke, who earned a no-decision for the Dodgers, got off on the wrong foot but was able to turn it around and turn in a very solid outing. After solo homers in the first and second frames, Hoorelbeke buckled down and tossed a gem, allowing only the two runs over 6.2 innings of work.

Casey Hoorelbeke's older brother DH Jesse Hoorelbeke provided much of the offensive punch with a solo homer in the third for the Dodgers' first run. His sacrifice fly in the fifth tied the game, scoring 3B Scott Gillitzer, who had tripled one batter earlier. The game remained tied into the eighth when 2B Delwyn Young's RBI-triple plated SS Tony Abreu, who finished the night 3-for-4. Young scored two pitches later on rehabbing Major Leaguer RHP Scott Strickland's wild pitch.

Strickland (0-1) was saddled with the loss, while LHP Eric Stults (2-1) pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief for the win. RHP Beau Dannemiller earned his seventh save with a scoreless ninth inning of work.

The same two teams gather at Holman Stadium Tuesday night for the second-to-last regular season home game at 7:00 PM. The Treasure Coast race between the Mets and the Dodgers is tied at 7-7 with games the next two nights to decide the season series.
