DL Ronnie Mason Named IFL Defensive Player of the Week

MIDLAND, TX. : The West Texas Roughnecks are pleased to announce on Wednesday, May 11 that the Indoor Football League has named Roughnecks' defensive linemen Ronnie Mason Vidswap.com Defensive Player of the Week for week 12 of the 2011 regular season. In the Roughnecks 82-27 road win over the Arizona Adrenaline last Saturday (May 7), Mason recorded one interception returned for a 14-yard touchdown, including one sack and a safety. Mason played a key role on a defensive unit that recorded seven interceptions in the win over Arizona.

In nine games played this season, Mason (6'3", 260 lbs.) currently ranks fourth on the team with 26.0 total tackles including two interceptions, two pass breakups, and he currently ranks second on the team with 5.0 sacks.

In his first season with the Roughnecks in 2010, Mason finished sixth on the team with 38.0 total tackles including 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. Prior to his time with the Roughnecks, Mason was a Second-Team All-Big South Conference selection with Coastal Carolina in 2006 after posting 55.0 total tackles and 4.0 sacks.
