Omaha Lancers News Release

Lancer forward Mark Olver completed a four-point night with a goal at 2:54 of the overtime period to result in a 5-4 overtime victory over the Tri-City Storm on Saturday, February 10th. Olver scored two goals and added a pair of assists to lead the Lancer attack to their first win of the season over the Storm and the team's first win in Kearney since January 7th, 2006. The victory was also the Lancers' ninth straight win and moved them three points ahead of the Storm and Sioux City in the West Division standings.

Following a Tri-City power play goal early in the contest, the Lancers took a 2-1 lead into the lockerroom at the first intermission, on the strength of a goal scored by Nick Petrecki (his seventh of the season), assisted by Matt Thurber at 6:05 of the first period, followed by a power play goal scored by Patrick Schafer (his 11th goal of the year and second power play goal), assisted by Olver and Will O'Neill at the 16:16 mark of the frame.

Following a second period that saw Tri-City score the only goal of the session for a 2-2 tie after forty minutes, the Lancers struck first in the third period with Olver notching his 17th goal of the year, assisted by Schafer at 16 seconds of the period for a 3-2 lead. Tri-City scored twice in the next six and a half minutes for a 4-3 advantage, but Thurber tied the game with his fourth goal of the year, assisted by Schafer and Olver at 13:13 for a 4-4 tie and the resulting overtime period.

In overtime, Jack Downing's first attempt near the net was stopped by Storm goaltender Aaron Rock, but Olver was there to pop in the rebound and end the contest at 2:54. Olver's 18th red lighter of the year was also his fifth game-winning goal of the season. Mark now has 15 points in his last eight games, dating back to January 19th. He also has scored three goals and has nine points against Tri-City this season.

Michal Valent (4-0-0) picked up the win in the crease for the Lancers, stopping 37 of 41 shots on goal. Rock took the loss for Tri-City in net, stopping 27 of 32 Lancer shots on goal. Tri-City scored twice on the power play in six tries, breaking a consecutive penalty kill streak of the Lancers at 43. Omaha scored once on four power play chances, while taking seven penalties for 14 minutes. Tri-City was whistled five times for 10 minutes.

The Lancers have now won nine straight wins, their longest win streak of the season. Since December 1st, the Lancers have won 18 and lost only four (18-4-0).

Another road game awaits the Lancers on Saturday, February 17th, at Cedar Rapids, but that will be followed by a home game against the Green Bay Gamblers, Sunday afternoon, February 18th, at 5:00 PM in the Mid-America Center.
