Wachusett Dirt Dawgs News Release

LEOMINSTER, Mass. (Tuesday, June 25, 2013) The Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide defeated the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs 7-3 at Christmas in July night at Doyle Field.

"We got another nice effort from our bullpen," said Dirt Dawgs Owner, John Morrison. "For the first night in awhile, we didn't put enough runs up on the board. But we'll get em' tomorrow."

The Dirt Dawgs (3-9) jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the third thanks to a two RBI double from Josh Raymond (Judson University).

Yet Wachusett was unable to hold on to the lead for long, as the Tide struck back in the fourth, scoring three runs to take a 3-2 lead. Old Orchard Beach (7-6) never looked back, adding two runs in the fifth and sixth respectively.

The Raging Tide's offense came from shortstop Shane Bussey (Maine), who went 1-for-4 with two RBIs, and right fielder Dylan Begin (UMass), who went 2-for-4 with a solo homerun.

Reliever Nick Whittaker (St. Josephs College) earned the win for the Tide, pitching 2.1 scoreless innings. He struck out four.

The Dirt Dawgs looked to rally in the bottom of the ninth, starting the inning with back-to-back singles, but Tide pitcher, Louis Distasio (URI), was able to calm down and retire the next three batters to end the game.

Wachusett was led on offense by Derek Lowe (William & Mary). Lowe went 3-for-4 and added an RBI. He also had two diving web gems in centerfield, saving a couple runs in the process.

Michael Marshall (Bryant University) took the loss for the Dirt Dawgs, falling to 1-2 on the season.

The Dirt Dawgs return to action tomorrow, as they travel to Connecticut to take on the Torrington Titans.
