Rochester Red Wings News Release

Brian Dinkelman's two-run double off John Lester snapped a 0-0 tie in the fifth inning and sparked the Red Wings to a 7-4 win over the Pawtucket Red Sox Friday afternoon in spring training action from Ft. Myers, Fla.

New acquired prospect, Trevor May, earned the win for the Wings tossing five shutout innings as Rochester improved to 5-3-1 this spring with three of those wins coming against IL North rival Pawtucket.

May, acquired along with Vance Worley in the deal that sent Ben Revere to Philadelphia this winter, allowed five hits and struck out four as he outdueled Boston's All-Star southpaw. The burly right-hander went 10-13 with a 4.87 ERA in 28 starts for Reading (AA) last season as the number one prospect in the Phillies system.

The Wings offense pounded out 11 hits Friday including five that went for extra-bases. Danny Lehmann, Chris Colabello and Evan Bigley all racked up multiple hits for Rochester.

Mark Sobolewski circled the bases for a run after his RBI single was misplayed by the Pawtucket outfield.

Clete Thomas and James Beresford each had a double for the Red Wings.

Shairon Martis gave up all four runs in 2.1 innings. Martis started 10 games for the Wings last season after being acquired mid-season from Pittsburgh. Luis Perdomo earned the save tossing a scoreless ninth inning.

The Wings and Pawtucket do it all over again Saturday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. from the Lee County Sports Complex in Ft. Myers.

TWINS NOTES:

The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have optioned outfielder Joe Benson and left-handed pitcher Pedro Hernandez to Rochester. In addition, they have reassigned right-handed pitcher Luis Perdomo to minor league camp.

Benson started 2012 with the Red Wings hitting .179 in 28 games. He made his Major League debut with the Twins in 2011.

Minnesota also announced that former Red Wings LHP Scott Diamond and RHP Anthony Swarzak, have been put on the 15-day disabled list. Diamond is still rehabbing from left elbow arthroscopy this past offseason and Swarzak is recovering from left-sided rib fractures.

The Twins now have 38 players in camp: 20 pitchers (4 non-roster), 4 catchers (1 non-roster), 8 infielders (2 non-roster) and 6 outfielders (2 non-roster).
