ASTROS LEGEND GUEST SPEAKER - Larry Dierker, the California native who first pitched, then broadcasted, then managed himself into the hearts of Houston Astros fans over parts of five decades, will deliver tonight's keynote address at the Third Annual South Texas Winter Baseball Banquet.
The function begins with a social hour and silent auction at 6:30 in the Corpus Christi Ballroom of the Omni Bayfront Hotel. Tickets are available at the door or may be purchased in advance at the Whataburger Field Box Office until 5 p.m.
Banquet tickets are also good for admission to next month's Astros Caravan Luncheon.
After Dierker's message, the Hooks will recognize the 2007 South Texas Preseason High School All-Star Team. The evening culminates with the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Texas Rangers hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo.

Collegiate Player of the Year - Steve Yaden, Texas A&M-Kingsville; Collegiate Pitcher of the Year - Chris White, Texas A&M-Kingsville; Professional Player of the Year - Alfred Joseph, Chicago Cubs; Professional Pitcher of the Year - Trey Hearne, St. Louis Cardinals; Hooks Player of the Year - Hunter Pence; Hooks Pitcher of the Year - Matt Albers.

Proceeds from both the South Texas Winter Baseball Banquet and Astros Caravan Luncheon benefit the Hooks Field of Dreams program.
FROGS, OWLS, RED RAIDERS, ISLANDERS - That's the lineup for the Second Annual Whataburger College Classic, March 8-11 at Whataburger Field. TCU, Rice, Texas Tech and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi comprise the field. Texas Tech makes its first appearance, stepping in for inaugural Classic club Arizona State.

Rice (1st in Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball preseason polls) and TCU (24th Baseball America/15th Collegiate Baseball) are nationally ranked. Rice was 57-13 last season and reached the semifinals of the College World Series. TCU (39-23) participated in the NCAA Regional at Norman, Oklahoma, as champion of the Mountain West Conference. Tech finished 31-26-1, TAMUCC 20-31.
WEBSITE POLL - St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols remains the fantasy king, according to our poll this past week, asking you which player would be your first pick for your fantasy baseball team. Pujols pulled 33% of the 219 votes that were tabulated, outdistancing Astros hurler and second-place finisher Roy Oswalt, who received 21% of the vote. Reigning National League MVP Ryan Howard, first baseman for the Phillies, came in third with 17%.
